I am a recruiter and headhunter in the UK. I have seen over 250,000 CVs in my career, I have seen everything from the sublime to the tragic, with everything in between.

On a competitive job advert I can receive up to 500 applications, the first stage of the selection process is an ATS scan. This is software to read the key information on your CV. This "robot" can only read certain types of text, and certain formats. You need to make sure you are ATS compatible. I will check this for you.

After the ATS review is an initial scan by the recruiter, by the very nature of the process that means the initial scan is where most CVs get rejected, that scan can be a matter of seconds. You need to be able to stand out from the crowd.
