About me
Language is my art and words are my paint palette. I love creative writing and painting a picture with words, and I understand the importance of using the right words and correct grammar, in the same way that a painter uses specific colours and techniques, in order to effectively convey an idea or to emphasise a point.
“Words have the power to both destroy and heal. When words are both true and kind, they can change our world” - Buddha
In 2003, I graduated from The University of Central Lancashire with a Bachelor of Arts Degree with Honours in Linguistics with German, which included a comprehensive study of the English language and its grammar, as well as learning the German language.
Following university, I carried out various administrative, secretarial and customer service roles, through which I developed and honed my typing, organisational and interpersonal skills.
However, I always dreamed of working for myself and applying my language skills, which include an excellent comprehension of the English language, a competency in German and an overall aptitude for learning languages. So, in 2015, I completed a home study course in proofreading with a company called Chapterhouse, through which I learned all the necessary skills and techniques required for professional proofreading and editing.
Since joining People Per Hour in September 2016, I have been able to realise my dream, and have worked on a variety of different and interesting projects, whereby I have been able to apply my language skills. Some of the notable projects I have undertaken to date include:
- Proofreading, editing and occasionally rewriting dissertations, essays, theses, novels, non-fiction books, memoirs, blogs, articles, web content, recipes and much more
- Writing CVs, letters and content for webpages and business ventures
- Transcribing videos and podcasts
- Translating books, poems, theses, promotional material, product descriptions, medical reports and testimonials from German into English, and occasionally from English into German.
I thoroughly enjoy my work and the fact that it is so varied, and I am always seeking new and exciting projects.
Aside from work, my other interests include photography (having completed a short course in Digital Photography with the Open University in 2010), reading, upcycling, arts and crafts, travelling, listening to music and attending concerts and shows. I also love learning new languages and have recently started teaching myself British Sign Language, as well as Chinese.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any documents that require polishing, if you need some unique and professional content writing, or if you have any other linguistic requests, and I will do my best to respond to any queries as soon as possible.
